Force & Pressure

Questions and Answers based on NCERT Book

Force & Pressure is a crucial Chapter of Physics, this class (VIII) covers several key introductory concepts that are essential for understanding the subject.

Q.01 What is force?

Answer. A pull or push is called force.

Q.02 What is the SI unit of Force?

Answer. SI unit of force is Newton (N).

Q.03 Give examples of actions where we apply force?

Answer. Kicking, Picking, Opening, Shutting, Hitting, Lifting, Flicking, Pushing, Pulling etc.

Q.04 What are the effects of force?

Answer. The following are the effects of forces-

          (a) It can make a stationary object move.

          (b) It can stop moving objects.

          (c) It can change the speed of a moving object.

          (d) It can change the size or shape of an object.

          (e) It can change the direction of motion of a moving object.

Q.05 How to find a net force acting on a body when two forces are acting in opposite direction?

Answer. By finding the difference between the forces.

Q.06 What do you mean by magnitude of force?

Answer. It is the size or value of a force. The strength of the force is expressed by its magnitude.

Q.07 What are the states of motion?

Answer. The states of motion are Rest and Motion.

Q.08 If two or more forces act on a body, what will be responsible for the effect on the body?

Answer. The effect on the object is due to the net force acting on it.

Q.09 What do you mean by state of motion?

Answer. The states of motion of an object is described by its speed and direction of its motion.

Q.10 What do you mean by contact force?

Answer. A force that can be applied to an object by touching it is called contact force.

Q.11 What do you mean by non-contact force?

Answer. A force that can be applied to an object without touching it is called non-contact force.

Q.12 Give examples of contact forces.

Answer. Force of friction, Muscular force etc.

Q.13 Define: non-contact force.

Answer.  A force that can be applied on an object without touching it is called non-contact force.

Force & Pressure

Q.14 Give examples of non-contact forces.

Answer. Magnetic force, Gravitational force, Electrostatic force etc.

Q.15 While sieving grains, small pieces fall on ground. Which force pulls them down?

Answer. Gravitational Force.

Q.16 What is muscular force?

Answer. The force resulting from the action of muscles is known as muscular force.

Q.17 Write the similarity between electrostatic and magnetic forces?

Answer. Both are non-contact forces, both are attractive as well as repulsive.

Q.18 What is frictional Force?

Answer. The force resisting the relative motion of solid surfaces is called frictional force.

Q.19 What is gravitational Force?

Answer. In the universe, any two objects attract each other this force is known as gravitational force.

Q.20 What do you mean by Force?

Answer. The force exerted between a magnet and other magnet or magnetic material is known as magnetic force.
